Extended Visitors Visa Requirements
A visa only enables the holder to proceed to a port of entry before the expiry date of the visa. The holder must comply with the applicable law, regulations and the following entry requirements of the Republic of South Africa.
No fixed travel arrangements should be made prior to the issuance of the visa and Five (5) working days should be allowed for processing from receipt of the application. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE MISSION ENQUIRING THE PROGRESS OF YOUR APPLICATION UNTIL AT LEAST FIVE (5) WORKING DAYS AFTER THE MISSION HAS RECEIVED YOUR APPLICATION.
Entry will not be permitted on a one-way flight ticket, unless the person is in possession of a valid Temporary Work/Study Permit, Permanent Residence Permit or an appropriate visa.
PLEASE NOTE: A Repatriation Guarantee deposit of 1,500.00
AUD may be required to be lodged at this Mission for all applicants applying
for extended visitors visas. A receipt will be issued to you by this Mission
which must be kept in order for the money to be refunded upon your return.
The deposit is refunded on application and on producing the original receipt
once the person traveling has left South Africa. Normal visa fees are applicable.
The prescribed visa fee is NOT payable for visa endorsement on DIPLOMATIC or OFFICIAL passports.
Entry Requirements:
- A valid Passport/Travel Document valid for no less than thirty (30) days after the expiry of the intended visit, with one (1) completely blank page.
- A valid visa (if required).
- Sufficient funds.
- Yellow fever certificates are required if the journey starts or entails passing through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America.
Visa requirements:
- Application form BI-84.
- Original Passport valid for no less than thirty (30) days after the expiry of the intended visit with two (2) completely blank pages.
- One (1) passport size photo.
- Travel itinerary showing onward or return flight details (PRELIMINARY BOOKING ONLY, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE FIRM TRAVEL BOOKING). In the case of transit purposes, proof of onward passage.
- Proof of sufficient funds. Funds of 1000.00 AUD per month per person is
regarded as sufficient.
- Medical and radiological
reports. Radiology reports not necessary for pregnant women and children 12 years and below.
- Police clearance certificate(s) in respect of all applicants 18 years or older, in respect of countries where person(s) resided one (1) year or longer.
- Visa fee (where applicable). Fees payable are dependent on the nationality
of passport held. Where fees are payable, the currently fee is 85.00 AUD.

- A letter explaining exactly what the purpose of the visit is and supporting documentation, if applicable.
Return Postage:
- For applications originating from within Australia - a Self-addressed Express
or Registered Post Envelope (only one envelope per family) OR a Postal Money
Order or Bank Cheque made payable to the South African High Commission.
- For applications originating from outside Australia a Bank Draft for the
amount of
10.00 AUD made payable to the South African High Commission. (Fee
covers
whole family / group)
