Transit Visa Requirements

Visa restricted passport holders who want to transit South Africa to any one of South Africa's neighbouring countries, MUST apply for a transit visa. The neighbouring countries are Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

Passport holders who want to transit a South African port of entry enroute to any other country, may do so without the need to apply for a transit visa.

Transit Visas are NOT issued at South African ports of entry.

No fixed travel arrangements should be made prior to the issuance of the Transit Visa. Five (5) working days should be allowed for processing from receipt of the application. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE MISSION ENQUIRING THE PROGRESS OF YOUR APPLICATION UNTIL AT LEAST FIVE (5) WORKING DAYS AFTER THE MISSION HAS RECEIVED YOUR APPLICATION.

Entry will not be permitted on a one-way flight ticket.

The prescribed visa fee is NOT payable for persons traveling on a DIPLOMATIC or OFFICIAL passport.

Entry requirements:

1. A valid Passport/Travel Document valid for no less than thirty (30) days after the expiry of the intended visit, with two (2) completely blank page.
2. A valid Transit Visa (if required).

Transit Visa requirements:

1. Application form BI-84.
2. Original Passport valid for no less than thirty (30) days after the expiry of the intended visit with two (2) completely blank pages.
3. One (1) passport size photo.
4. Travel itinerary showing onward flight details.
5. Transit Visa fee (where applicable). Fees payable are dependent on the nationality of passport held. Where fees are payable, the current fee is 85.00 AUD. Check here to see if you must pay the visa fee: Visa Countries.

Payment must be in Australian Dollars (AUD) made out to the “South African High Commission” by way of Postal Money Order or Bank Cheque. Personal cheques or credit cards are NOT accepted.

• For applications originating from within Australia - a Self-addressed Express or Registered Post Envelope (only one envelope per family).
