Intra-Company Transfer

In terms Section 19(5) and 19(6) & Regulation 16(1) and 16(8) of the South Africa Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No.13 of 2002), as amended by the Immigration Amendment Act, 2004 (Act No. 19 of 2004), persons who intend to transfer within an affiliated, parent or sister company, are required to obtain an Intra-Company Transfer Permit.

Permits in this category are issued for a maximum period of two (2) years.

Please note: Provisional Airline bookings may be made for the proposed departure date, however, the Mission advises that payment should NOT be made in the event of an unsuccessful application. The processing time for permit applications is approximately ten (10) working days from receipt if the application is in order.

The following documentation is required:

  1. Duly completed application form signed by the applicant - BI-1738
  2. Photograph of applicant (and all accompanying family members/partner)
  3. Passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit
  4. A vaccination certificate (if applicant(s) travelled trough the yellow fever belt)
  5. Proof of an employment contract with the company abroad
  6. A letter from the South African company confirming the transfer of such foreigner from the parent/affiliated company abroad, as well as specifying the occupation and capacity in which the foreigner will be employed, and that the maximum duration will not exceed two years
  7. Letter from the employer/company abroad confirming that the foreigner shall be transferred to a branch/affiliate company in South Africa
  8. The employer shall undertake to:
    • Ensure the foreigner leaves South Africa at the end of 2 years
    • ensure the applicant's passport is valid at all times
    • the foreigner shall be employed in the position for which the permit is issued
  9. Medical and radiological reports (excluding pregnant women and children under 12 years of age)
  10. Police clearance from every country where the applicant(s) resided for 12 months or longer since the age of 18 years
  11. A certified copy of your Marriage certificate or completed affidavit in the case of life partners (if spouse/partner traveling with applicant)
  12. Certified copy of unabridged birth certificate of minor children (if traveling with applicant)
  13. Divorce decree (if applicable)
  14. Proof of legal separation (if applicable)
  15. Proof of custody where children are involved (if applicable)
  16. Consent from parent(s) (if applicable)
  17. Death certificate in the case of spouse (if applicable)
  18. Fees: Principal Applicant 300.00 AUD; Accompanying immediate family members,
    85.00 AUD each.

Please note: A Repatriation Guarantee deposit of 1,500.00 AUD MAY be required to be lodged at this Mission for all applicants, when your Permit has been approved. A receipt will be issued to you by this Mission which must be kept in order for the money to be refunded upon your return

  • For applications originating from within Australia - a Self-addressed Express or Registered Post Envelope (only one envelope per family) OR a Postal Money Order or Bank Cheque made payable to the South African High Commission.
  • For applications originating from outside Australia a Bank Draft for the amount of
    10.00 AUD made payable to the South African High Commission. (Fee covers
    whole family / group)

Personal cheques or credit cards are NOT accepted.

Processing time is ten (10) working days from receipt of application if application is complete.
